I just got my train from Aarhus and am heading back to Berlin. Tonite I will have one last dinner with Dana and Simon, and then tomorrow morning head back to New York.
As I write the flat, beautiful and bucolic Danish landscape and marvel at this amazing weather. On one side I see dark clouds looming and drizzle. But on the other almost clear skies with the sun trying to make an appearance.
And it is these "little" things that I will remember most from these 2 weeks. There was plenty of museums, monuments, events that I saw, but in the end of the day other moments will linger longer in my mind. Playing beach volleyball and drinking mimosas and beer during a 7-hour boat trip around Berlin, or playing Guitar Hero and driving through some of Jutland's landscape with Christian.
Then there's also all the running routes I discovered. Pavement, grass, trail - no matter the surface, each one was as exciting. And whether it is in the quiet woods in Aarhus or the busy streets in Berlin, runners are all the same really. We are always in our own little worlds but always find time to acknowledge each other - maybe it is a simple greeting or a smile.
It was not the goal but rather the journey to get there that it made the experience so alive. While I miss home, friends, family, my bed. I wished the trip would last a little bit longer. But then that is what makes it a worthwhile trip - the desire to continue the journey.
