Being lazy

It has been quite sometime, since I last posted anything to this blog. Ever since I got back from my European trip, I have been finding excuses not to write. Maybe I am just not inspired to share anything, maybe just plain lazy.

But whatever the reason for my silence, you would be happy to know that running itself has been quite productive. The last I wrote I was about to start my training for the Philadelphia Marathon. Well, time has passed quite quickly and next Sunday will be race day. My goal of a sub-3 hour marathon is within reach I feel. Whether it is going to happen or not, only time will tell. At least I know I have given myself a shot at it.

I know I am in great shape, in better shape than last year when I got injured 3 weeks prior to this same marathon. Maybe a year older, more experienced, going to Zap Camp in NC or just running with others, such as Robert, has made me a wiser runner.

I remember training for NYC in 2006 and thinking that 40 miles a week were a lot. And this was only easy runs mind you. No, tempo, intervals let alone drills or strides. 3 years on and this time around I maxed out at 65 miles a week, peppered with all sorts of un-imaginable workouts only a year back. Amazing how the body adapts to all the pounding. A few years back an 18 mile long run would sap me out of all my energy the entire weekend. This time around I would hardly feel in the afternoon the effects of the 23 miler I had run in the morning.

At any rate, I feel ready. This week will be all about resting and fueling. Good thing that things are busy at work. This way I will not overthink about the race. No time to get anxious. Just try to be focused and concentrated for the big day. I know many things can happen on race day. I might have a day off. Or have a very inspiring day. But I can't control that right now.

I promise to keep you posted...

You're right, it is crazy how different the workouts this year have been from those in the past. Hopefully the trend in increasing mileage will continue next year and beyond.
