I have been in Aarhus since Tuesday. This is the second biggest town in Denmark but it feels quite deserted. Society here is still quite homogeneous ethnically, so whenever I am running I always get curious looks by the occasional passerby or cyclist.
In Berlin, on the other hand, things are quite different. I do not standout at all. I would see people around all the time either other runners or people just walking in the streets, doing their daily chores or hanging out having a beer. Simon actually just started running this summer and he would join me every once in a while. I actually borrowed one of his routes and made it my favourite. Close to their apartment is the Landwehrkanal, which crosses town from east to west. Running by the water, seeing the changes in scenery and being so close to nature made me forget at times that I was in such a big and historical city.
Temperatures in Denmark have been mostly in the high sixties and perfect for running (it is about 10-15 degrees colder than in Berlin). Instead of trails, I have been running mostly on asphalted bikes paths behind Christian's house. There is also a wooded area where I come across a runner or two every once in a while, but it is mostly people with their dogs. The area is not very long, so I find myself having to make loops.
I do not think I miss New York yet. I know it is going to be warm and humid and I will miss Berlin scenery and the Danish weather.
