Running in Quebec

I am taking time off of work and have been traveling a little bit. Right now I am in St-Zotique in Quebec visiting friends and meeting their 2-month old baby.

Around here there is a 100-mile plus network of bike paths where I am doing my running. There is access to the path just behind their house and it has been fun. There are not many runners but the cyclists around are very friendly, though my French is limited to 'bonjour' and 'merci'.

On Friday I ran 13 miles and went from St-Zotique to the city of Valleyfield on an island on the Saint Lawrence. I crossed the river, went through a Quebec hydroelectric and the woods. When I found myself in town there was a some famous speed boat competition taking place, so I spent some time looking at the boats and soaking the sun before I made my way back.

Today I ran 10 miles along the network of canals. It was mostly overcast and it felt great running.

Running is going very well, I think. I am trying to take the over 10 miles runs nice and easy. And I surprise myself that I have been running under 7min miles in the middle of the runs without really trying. Granted that it is mostly flat except for the bridges which have some elevation.

I will try to explore some of the other paths around here before it is time to go back to New York.

That sounds like a lot of fun. It's always good to get out and explore new territory.
