Pre-race rituals

3 days too go...

I started carbo loading yesterday. I have been eating bread, pasta, rice as well as fruits and veggies. Right now I am preparing risotto with mushrooms and asparagus. A recipe I found once in Runners World, I think. Also had my last alcoholic drink till after the race yesterday. I will try to cut off coffee, but not sure successful I will be about that.

On Tuesday I had my last hard run. It was a 10-miler with miles 5 to 9 at my projected marathon pace of 6.44. Yesterday and this morning with Robert I ran slow and easy 6 milers. I am scheduled to run a 5 mile run before the race, but still undecided whether that will be tomorrow or Saturday morning before going to Philadelphia.

To achieve my under 3 hour marathon. I will try to keep a 6.45 minute mile pace through the race. That would be give me a 2:57 marathon. A 6.51 would be enough for my goal, but might as well aim a little higher and give me some cushion. I am hoping to run the first half in around 1:29 and than try to keep it up till end. Well, that is the plan.

Other than that things seem to be under control. I got my gels for fueling during the race. Bought throwaway gloves and headgear. I am ready to go. Hope it pans out...

Nice -- you got the gloves and hat. I still haven't done that yet. Need to.

I still say you should do your last run Saturday morning and take tomorrow off. It'll help to work out the pre-race jitters.
