The race went better than I had expected.
Based on my training and previous races, I thought that I should be shooting at something between 41 and 42 minutes. The beginning as usual felt crowded. There should really be more definition in the corrals, since I felt I was bumping into so many runners, trying to dodge the slower races.
At any rate, once the 1st mile or so things started open up and I could start running more freely. I pretty much kept a steady pace in the high 6:20s min/miles through Mile 5 and was pleased that I was catching quite a few runners.
I wanted to finish strong and felt that I could push the pace in the final mile. One other runner joined me and we passed at least 10 runners before the finish line. Our pace for the final mile and quarter was 6:05 min/mile. My final time was 40.16 - NYRR's site has my gun time of 40.37 and not net time.
All of a sudden I feel positive about my training. A few days back I was even considering taking time off of running, since my knee and shin were really bothering me and I was even struggling with cardio. This week I gambled and decided to introduce intervals and tempo runs into my training and I guess it payed off. Almost overnight the pain is barely noticeable and cardiowise I feel I improved. One thing I must add to training, however, is hill work. I really struggled at Cat Hill around Mile 5 of the race.

Nice work! Sounds like you're headed in the right direction.
NYRR on the other hand... That's such a bummer about your time being wrong. At least it wasn't a P.R. And on the first corral -- Hopefully they'll see enough similar comments out there and realize that a change needs to be made.
Nice dude!! I think I was neck and neck with you during the race!
