On swimming

It has been a frustrating few weeks not being able to run. When I thought about things to be thankful about today, I almost came empty. All I could think of were these injuries that have been preventing me from running. But, on the other hand, I can not deny that I have been enjoying all the swimming I have been doing lately. It is like re-discovering an old friend.

I regularly swam from the age of 9 up till I was 16. I started swimming on a doctor`s advice that was worried I was a bit small for my age. (OK, no comment.) I never became more than a mediocre swimmer but always looked forward for those moments of quietness and solitude whenever was swimming laps.

What I enjoyed so much about swimming back then is in many ways what I enjoy most about running now. It is that moment in the day where whatever is preoccupying me just goes away; the only moment where I am alone with my thoughts, in total control.

Glad you're able to enjoy the swimming. Maybe you can do a triathalon when your ankle heals up -- the biking part is easy... :-)
