Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I have been trying to decide my racing schedule this year, which marathon to runs. Ideally I would want to run one the first half of year and another (or possibly 2) the second half.

There are a few variables that I need to take into account. First, the recovery from the ankle tendinitis and runner's knee that prevented me from running Philadelphia in the fall. And then, there is the state of the economy. Right now my job seems to be secure, but who knows what will happen 6 months from now.

I used this week's running to gauge my fitness level. I am pleased on how this week went and think that I am ready to start training for a marathon. I signed up for the St. Louis Marathon on April 19. I will also use this opportunity to visit an old friend from Brazil and her family who moved to the US quite awhile ago.

For the rest of the year, I am not sure yet what my plans will be. I will try the lottery again for the NYC Marathon and/or perhaps try Philadelphia again 3 weeks after. I toyed with running Chicago. My ambition is to run the 5 majors (others being NYC, Boston, Berlin and London) during my running career, but with this unstable economy it just did not seem feasible. During my run with Robert yesterday, I realized that I would easily spend more than $1,000 (hotel, registration, plane ticket, food, etc). In normal times, I would not hesitate and run, but it just seems so frivolous right now.

This economy sucks. I really wanted to run Chicago too. Maybe next year...
